Neutral on it? There isn't much to go on that I can deduce precisely where their relationship is because the current LDS writing style is putting in hints of something that can go in any direction later in the future. In a way, it's good that it gets a conversation going with the audience, but also, it's quite a tactic they've been using in gauging what the players think of their 'hinted' direction and going with what is the players' collected fan thoughts and theories.

I get the feeling they haven't dove much into this yet because this has to come alongside our/MC's own feelings of granny after realizing their history and reality of their relationship. 

While there are points that give strength to the whole XYZ and granny having a strained relationship, there is also the part of XYZ mentioning that we can confide in him and not make granny worried cause they've put enough on her plate as they grew up. 

So I'm just neutral on it in all honestly. Just waiting on future content that would touch up on it and we'll see which direction it takes us.
